Bob provides complete piano services to a comprehensive range of clients including universities, schools, recording studios, music schools, piano retailers and private homes.

Daniel Perry has always been surrounded by pianos growing up with and learning from Bob, his father, who restored and repaired pianos in his workshop at home.

Daniel has a very good ear for music and learned to play piano from age 4 until grade 5 AMEB level. During school years he also learned and played trumpet, guitar and Percussion (grade 6 level). He taught young children after school (mainly drums and piano).

When Daniel was in grade 10, he wanted to learn more about the trade of piano tuning, however there as not enough people enrolling to learn the trade, so the education sadly become obsolete here in Australia. He signed up for a Cert IV in Furniture finishing in 2013 whilst finishing high school and trained in piano restoration and tuning for 12 months. He was not able to continue as the modules for Furniture Finishing were not related to piano tuning and restoration. Daniel then studied a Cert 111 in early Education at TAFE (while at high school).

He has continued to train alongside his father learning from the experience of 50 plus years of knowledge and experience. Daniel is now a full-time employee of Prestige Piano Services.

I have used the services of Bob Perry, "Master Piano Tuner" since he assisted me with the purchase of my "Boston Steinway Grand Piano" in December 1999. Bob was recommended to me by my then music teacher the Late Betty Muriel Nock M Ed St B Ed St BA A.MusA LTCL ATMA MACE... Since that time Bob Perry has regularly maintained the tuning of my cherished Boston Grand Piano to my complete satisfaction. I wholly recommend Bob Perry to others, as he is a Master Craftsman.

Bob has tuned our piano for over 8 years, and has always provided an excellent service. Bob is punctual, professional, and very proficient at his trade. We had a hammer break on our piano (something was dropped on one of the keys) and Bob was able to diagnose and repair the problem very quickly and for a very reasonable price. We will be continuing with Bob for our piano maintenance moving forward.

Sally's Piano

…the piano plays beautifully and sounds wonderful; just like new!

We have a Yamaha C5 grand piano which is about 35 years old. For the past eight years Bob Perry of Prestige Piano Services has been servicing our piano.

Last year Bob undertook a major rebuild of the instrument: restring, repair, voicing, action and polishing the case. The work cost $14,200.00. Again, the piano plays beautifully and sounds wonderful; just like new!

Bob’s work is first rate. We have found Bob to be very reliable and pleasant to work with.

At the latest tuning this year, we met Bob’s son, Daniel, who is following in his father’s footsteps. We wish Prestige Piano Services a prosperous future.

FAQ

Feel free to ask Any question

There are many questions that our customers have asked over the years that we have been tuning and maintaining their instruments. These are some of the most frequently asked questions

If your piano has gone for a year without being tuned, it’s probably out of tune. Generally a piano should be tuned twice a year because changes to pitch can occur due to changes in humidity, temperature and other factors. In some regions the pitch will rise in summer and fall in winter, whilst in other regions the opposite will happen.

For most notes on a piano the hammer strikes two or three strings tuned to the same pitch. If one of those strings is off, there will be a wavering or twangy sound. The note should sound clear.

Your piano’s tone can be extremely different depending on your room. When in a room with hard floors the tone could be quite bright. The same piano in a room with thick carpet and thick curtains could have soft tone. If the tone is too bright or harsh the hammers can be softened by using toning needles. If the tone is too soft, lacquer can be applied to the hammers to make them harder.

Yes, we are able to help you evaluate a piano that you are considering purchasing. Our 35 years of experience in tuning and repairing all brands and styles of pianos allows us to give you an unbiased and professional view of the suitability and value of an instrument. .
